Lead Free Plumbing Products
Starting January 2014 plumbers must comply with the “Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act”, affecting all potable plumbing products sold or installed in the United States.
When U.S. Senate Bill No. S.3874 [1] goes into effect, “… the wetted surface of every of pipe, fixture, and fitting sold in the United States for use in a potable water system must contain less than 0.25% of lead by weight.” [2]
What is potable water? From Wikipedia: “Drinking water or potable water is water safe enough to be consumed by humans or used with low risk of immediate or long-term harm.” [3]
What does this mean for you the homeowner?
Ask your plumber or supplier to show you that their products are lead free. Many suppliers’ products will be marked LF to indicate that the product is lead free. How this is displayed may vary from one manufacturer to another.
Crisp Plumbing will ensure that the products that we provide will be of the highest quality and will meet or exceed Lead Free requirements.
